About the The Talking Sheep

Can words stop a predator? A naive sheep approaches a wolf, convinced that communication can bridge any divide. She argues that understanding can dispel fear, but the wolf's silence is more calculated than she realizes. When the wolf finally speaks, it lures the sheep closer—with deadly consequences. Was the sheep foolish, or was the wolf simply acting on its nature?

A sheep met a wolf at the edge of the forest. The sheep smiled politely and said, “Everyone says you are dangerous, but I don’t believe it. You look calm. You look reasonable.” The wolf listened in silence. Encouraged, the sheep continued, “I think the world misunderstands you. If we talked more, there would be no enemies.” The wolf nodded slowly. “You are right,” the wolf said at last. “Talking is useful.” Proud of its own wisdom, the sheep stepped closer. The wolf ate the sheep. Later, the wolf wiped its mouth and said to itself, “Talking helped me decide.”
