It was the coldest winter night. Max, a tiny orange kitten, crawled through flooded alleys. Its fur was wet, matted, and frozen. Hungry, weak, it scavenged scraps, but every corner held danger—stray dogs lunged, rats snapped, and falling debris threatened to crush it. Suddenly, a shadow swooped. A stranger grabbed Max and stuffed it into a dark sack. It struggled, scratching and yowling, but the bag was tight. The stranger ran into the night, across icy streets and over broken fences. Nearby, Max—the Golden Retriever—noticed. His old limp barely slowed him. He ran, following the faint scent through narrow streets, past barking dogs, over slippery rooftops, and across frozen rivers. Max smashed through a broken window, claws scrabbling, fur singed by sparks, and nudged the cage. The rusty lock clicked. The kitten ran into his embrace. But escape was not over. The warehouse roof was unstable. Fire roared, timbers fell. Max carried the kitten through flames and smoke, jumping over gaps in the floor, slipping on wet boards, until they tumbled into the cold night outside. Exhausted, muddy, and scorched, they staggered through empty streets. Rain mixed with ash, soaking them both. By sunrise, they reached home. The kitten curled against Max, tail wrapping around his golden fur. From that day on, they never left each other. Even when storms came, the alley no longer held fear. Side by side, under a warm roof, they slept—alive, safe, and together.
